Apple to launch iPhone media controller app?

Another week, another rumored iPhone upgrade. The Unofficial Apple Weblog credits an anonymous tipster for revealing that code in a recent firmware release points to Apple working on iControl, a new iPhone app that enables the device to connect wirelessly to local iTunes libraries and browse and play their media content. According to TUAW, iControl will allow iPhone owners to screen videos, listen to music and play podcasts--screenshots suggest the program was developed under the codename "MobileRemote," which correlates with earlier iPhone and iPod touch apps like "MobileMail" and "MobileSafari." The smart money suggests iControl will make its formal debut whenever Apple debuts its first official iPhone apps.
