AppNation event highlights consumer apps ecosystem

Fledgling conference development company M2 Events announced it will mount its first Appnation executive event and exposition at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center on Sept. 13 and 14. According to M2 founder and event chairman Drew Ianni (former programming chairman and senior global analyst for digital media conference ad:tech), Appnation will focus on social and mobile apps across devices and platforms including smartphones, tablets, PCs and portable gaming units--the show will spotlight subjects including app monetization, investment strategies and opportunities, new media business models and marketing, along with consumer insights and analytics. GetJar founder and CEO Ilja Laurs will keynote Appnation--additional speakers and attendees will include executives from firms including Google, Marvel Entertainment, Norwest Venture Partners and BlackBerry Partners Fund.

"We don't think the developer community needs another technical show, but we do believe there's a need to focus on the business conversation and subjects like discoverability and monetization," Ianni said in an interview with FierceDeveloper. "We want there to be value for developers of all sizes--from two guys in a garage up to The New York Times or Conde Nast. They all live side by side, and they're all in competition with one another. The issues we're going to tackle are relevant to all of them."
