QUALCOMM sues Nokia over GSM patents

QUALCOMM has sued Nokia for alleged violations of 11 patents related to GSM, GPRS, and EDGE. Nokia is reportedly "stunned" by the lawsuit and "disappointed" that QUALCOMM choose to take the issue to court without even offering to license the patents in question. The lawsuit is also surprising considering that QUALCOMM, a company famous for its exclusive support of CDMA, is claiming to have patents that cover data transmissions over rival GSM networks. In a unrelated courtroom fight, Nokia was recently among six companies to file a complaint with the European Union arguing that QUALCOMM was unfairly licensing its cellphone chip technology. Article
