Sony Ericsson targets pro-sumers for customizing tool

Tech-savvy consumers want to customize their Sony Ericsson phones. That's the theory behind Sony Ericsson's new launch of the latest version of Themes Creator. The company is making the Themes Creator 4.0 mobile user interface design tool available to developers and consumers who want to personalize their Sony Ericsson phones.

Jonas Petterson, tools product manager at Sony Ericsson's content and services division in Redwood, Calif., told FierceDeveloper the tool has received such strong interest from developers that they decided to make it easier for anyone to use. "The launch of Themes Creator 4.0 is a complete revamp of the tool," Petterson said.

The tool allows users to create mobile themes such as "winter" or "season" themes faster and easier by offering different editing levels to suit various technical expertise. It also allows a user to easily import different color palettes from Adobe Kuler.

Sony Ericsson believes the tool will add value to its phones and is marketing the tool through social networking sites, YouTube and to consumers who buy Sony Ericsson phones. The tool is not yet available for the X1 handset but Petterson expects it to be available in the next month or so.
