Alca-Lu powers Tikiphone 3G network

Alcatel-Lucent announced that Tikiphone, a mobile service provider for French Polynesia, will be launching the region's first 3G network.

Tikiphone will be upgrading its network to high speed packet access (HSPA) technology in order to support a full range of high-speed mobile internet and data services.

The mobile service provider will be introducing Alcatel-Lucent's high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) solution in Papeete in Tahiti, in order to provide its customers with new mobile broadband services several times faster that the current network.

The project will also increase network coverage in the area and the capacity of the existing GSM/EDGE network.
