Analyst: RCS will generate 80B messages annually by 2017

Rich Communication Suite (RCS) mobile messages will generate 83 billion messages per year within five years, according to a new report from Juniper Research. However the report highlights that this will be less than 1 per cent of total messaging traffic in 2017, with established services like SMS, and IP services such as IM, email and social messaging comprising the vast majority of the messaging traffic. Under Juniper's rubric, RCS messages include Joyn-branded RCS-e and RCS services. Many operators in Western Europe as well as other developed markets have committed to launching Joyn-branded RCS-e services, with Germany and Spain leading the way. Release
