BMW picks Deutsche Telekom for mobile

Deutsche Telekom is set to provide mobile communications to car maker BMW until end-2019, under a new contract signed mid-June.

The deal covers provision of SIM cards to 50,000 BMW staff in Germany and also sees Deutsche Telekom handle data communications for the auto firm. Mobile communications including text messages and data connections will be integrated into BMW’s logistics processes to optimize production, and the telco states the deal could be extended to additional countries beyond Germany.

Reinhard Clemens, member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Systems, says BMW was won over by more than just price. The auto maker picked Deutsche Telekom for “the level of network availability and top-level service,” he explains.
