Cobham snaps up Axell Wireless

Defense technology firm Cobham last week agreed to buy distributed antenna systems (DAS) manufacturer Axell Wireless for £85 million (€100 million).

UK-headquartered Axell will be incorporated into the antenna unit of Cobham’s Aerospace and Security Division, led by its existing management team.

Fred Cahill, vice president of Cobham’s Antenna Systems Strategic Business Unit, explains the acquisition opens the door to new customers from the DAS market, and offers “R&D and operating synergies with our existing businesses.”

Axell’s most recent high profile installation was at the London Olympic Games last year, and the firm counts the Channel Tunnel and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building - among its other credits.
