First operational LTE base station live for German operator

Deutsche Telekom's first LTE base station is now fully operational in Kyritz/Brandenburg, Germany utilising the 800MHz spectrum to provide efficient broadband coverage for rural areas. The base station was built by Nokia Siemens Networks who, together with Huawei, is Deutsche Telekom's LTE development partner. Deutsche Telekom plans to roll out a further 500 LTE transmitters before the end of 2010. In the following year Deutsche Telekom will continue its network expansion to cover rural and underserved areas of the country and plans to deploy as many as 1000 more LTE sites as early as 2011.
