France Telecom eyes June rollout of FTTH

France Telecom is set to launch a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet access service in Paris and the greater Paris region of Hauts-de-Seine on a trial basis in June.

If the service proves successful, it will be extended to other parts of France or even abroad in 2007, a report from Le Monde said.

France Telecom's FTTH services, costing around 80 euros, provide unlimited telephone calls and high-definition television, as well as very high speed Internet access, the report said.

The carrier has seen its business adversely affected by the explosion of high-speed Internet access and triple-play offers covering television, telephony and the internet, prompting it to release its own high-speed Internet services, the report said.
