A new report from the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) predicts that more than 270 5G networks will be deployed by 2025, with around 10-15 "early" 5G networks (exhibiting at least one aspect of network performance-enhancing technology beyond LTE Advanced) in place by 2020. The association points to two significant trends that are driving the wireless industry to develop 5G network technology: the strong growth in demand for wireless broadband services, which require faster and higher capacity networks to deliver video and other content-rich services; and the predicted massive growth of Internet of Things (IoT) applications -- some of which will require ultra-low latency and need highly reliable IP connectivity.
