Infonetics: VoLTE is top driver for IMS but comes with challenges

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) may be the largest driver for the implementation of IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) core equipment by operators, but it also presents new challenges such as a limited set of compatible handsets and a weak business case, according to a new report from Infonetics Research. The report notes that it will be difficult to justify spending capital on a new network for just voice that represents flat-to-declining revenue, requiring providers to look well beyond running voice over IMS. The report also found that 83 per cent of operators surveyed say they will deploy VoLTE by 2016, up from 3 per cent today. Report
