KPN introduces mobile TV service

Dutch telecom firm KPN has launched a mobile TV service using a solution from Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks.

With the turnkey head-end open standards-based solution, KPN can now offer 10 TV channels to its subscribers across the Netherlands through the MobielTV service.

The service is made available through a broadcast network based on the digital video broadcast for handheld (DVB-H), the European standard for mobile television, and can be watched on DVB-H-enabled mobile devices.

More channels are expected to be included in the offering in the future, KPN said.

The channels currently available include Nederland 1, Nederland 3, RTL4, RTL24, SBS6, Jetix/Veronica, MTV Music, Discovery Channel, Xite and Nick Toons.

KPN is among the first mobile TV service providers in Europe.
