Commenting on its new M2M agreement with SmartTrust, TeliaSonera's head of industrial service, Hans Dahlberg, said that "M2M represented an opportunity that was potentially larger than either the mobile or internet revolutions."
The operator said that SmartTrust had been selected to supply the company with Over-the-Air (OTA) technology to enable M2M solutions including the management of SIMs, devices and applications.
According to Dahlberg, partnering with SmartTrust would allow TeliaSonera to support M2M-enabled applications in a variety of areas including electronic payment transactions, vehicle tracking and positioning, and information and entertainment. "Additionally, many industries would ultimately streamline and improve their service levels with M2M applications."
Commenting on the deal, Marianne Arosenius, MD of SmartTrust, said that its OTA and management software would play a fundamental role in ensuring TeliaSonera was successful with its M2M service. "Life cycle management provided a profound challenge for M2M solutions and the operators deploying them."
