News In Brief: Vodafone Qatar, TeliaSonera

Vodafone Qatar and Alcatel-Lucent have deployed the first hybrid powered base station in Qatar, using an integration of solar and wind energy. The solution is provided by Alcatel-Lucent’s Alternative Energy Program which will equip 100,000 mobile base stations with alternative energy solutions between 2010 and 2012.

TeliaSonera is defying a court order to supply details about one of its customers, the owner of SweTorrents, a closed site that tracks content torrents. The ISP says the order violates privacy laws, and is formally appealing the decision.
