Operators need to focus on enterprise needs to secure future revenues

Mobile operators are failing to address the 'pain points' for multinational companies (MNCs), according to a recent survey by Ovum and the Enterprise VPN User Association (EVUA).

As a result, they risk losing out to System Integrators (SI) and fixed operators when competing for MNCs' convergence and integration projects.

The survey, conducted with 42 EVUA members with telecoms budgets over $10 million, looks at usage of fixed, mobile, conferencing and outsourcing services. It shows that large users believe the major mobile operators lack an understanding of the complex needs of multinational organisations.

The research reveals that CIOs' number one concern is the ever-escalating cost of mobile services, particularly the high cost of international roaming, an issue mobile operators have proved slow to tackle.

The MNCs' views could prove costly to mobile operators in the future, according to Ovum

Ovum also expects SIs to do well: some (including EDS and Fujitsu) have already begun to enter the managed data services market for mobile users at a corporate level.- cellular-news.com
