Prepaid wireless service drives US online activity

Amid the economic downturn, US consumers are turning more and more to prepaid wireless services to connect to the Internet.

According to a recent comScore study, online activity continue to show strong gains despite the recession, as consumers turn to the use of cost-effective wireless service alternatives.

The combined visits to six leading US prepaid wireless sites –VirginMobileUSA.com , TracFone.com (América Móvil), MetroPCS.com, MyCricket.com (Leap Wireless), BoostMobile.com and Net10.com (América Móvil) – has jumped 37% to nearly 8 million visitors, or more than 4% of the total US Internet audience.

Leading the growth are MyCricket.com at 107% and Boostmobile.com at 105%, more than double the number of visits against last year.
