Report: Femtocell revenues slide 2.7% despite 14% jump in shipments

Global 2G and 3G femtocell revenue declined 2.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2012, despite a 14 per cent uptick in femtocell unit shipments, according to a new report from Infonetics Research. There had been a 20 percent surge in femtocell revenue in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to the report. Airvana was the revenue leader in the quarter, followed by Samsung and Alcatel-Lucent, Infonetics found. "Femtocell price erosion is due to a combination of factors, including new component suppliers entering the fray, manufacturing efficiencies and the continuing scale-up of femtocell shipment volumes," noted Richard Webb, an analyst at Infonetics Research.
