Report: Mobile and online messaging to reach 438B per day by 2019

Juniper Research predicted that mobile and online messaging traffic will reach 160 trillion messages per annum by 2019, up from 94.2 trillion this year--equating to approximately 438 billion messages sent and received by users on a daily basis by 2019. The figures incorporate SMS, MMS, IM (instant messaging), social media and email. The company's research also found that the negligible cost of IM services had led to significant migration from SMS. It noted that service providers such as Tencent's QQ, WhatsApp and WeChat now had more than 400 million active users, with WhatsApp reporting in excess of 30 billion messages sent per day. Report
