UK rail specialist deploys fiber networks

Access to the fiber ducts of UK incumbent British Telecom is already paying off in terms of opening the door to new players.

Rail industry software specialist DeltaRail has just completed deployment of two 100MB circuits on private routes, fiber networks and switches using BT infrastructure. The circuits were supplied by Iconnyx, a provider of managed IT and Internet services, and are designed not to interfere with one another.

Gavin Harris, IT manager with DeltaRail, says the two circuits are necessary because the firm is a “committed cloud user,” and requires “stable connectivity.” The higher bandwidth offered by Iconnyx’ networks is required after DeltaRail consolidated six offices into one, he adds.
