Webwire: BlackBerry co-chairs face drop; Belgacom completes Phone House buy

RIM is gearing up to replace co-founders Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie as co-chairman with independent director Barbara Stymiest. An internal report into the firm’s corporate structure is due on Jan 31.
 
Belgacom was yesterday cleared to complete a €22 million acquisition of handset retailer The Phone House, on condition it sells around half the chain’s 114 stores.
 
Total weekly app downloads breached the billion mark for the first time in the final week of 2011. Almost half the 1.2 billion downloads occurred in the US, followed by China and the UK.
