Verizon names Manon Brouillette in new COO, deputy CEO role for consumer group

Verizon has named Manon Brouillette as chief operating officer and deputy CEO of the operator’s Consumer Group.

In the newly created role, Brouillette will guide Verizon’s efforts to lead in connected 5G experiences and help the consumer group shape into a fully integrated technology company. She comes from a telecommunications and technology background, previously as president and CEO of Vidéotron in Canada until 2019. Vidéotron launched wireless services in 2010 and also provides broadband, pay TV and phone services.

As COO and deputy CEO Brouillette will report to Verizon Consumer Group chief executive Ronan Dunne. The Verizon Consumer Group makes up the lion’s share of the operator’s business, generating $22.8 billion in the first quarter of 2021.

In 2017 Brouillette joined the Board of Directors for Altice USA, which entered the wireless space in recent years as an MVNO. She also is on the board of directors at Canadian commerce platform Lightspeed and will resign effective June 11 to focus on the new job at Verizon. Brouillette’s served in a number of additional director roles including BFA Industries, the National Bank of Canada, and Sonder Inc.

“Manon brings tremendous value to our V Team. She has built and scaled brands, moving companies into new markets with rapid yet sustainable growth. Additionally, she has the tenacity of an entrepreneur honed from her extensive board membership at experience-driven startups like Sonder, Lightspeed POS (NYSE:LSPD, TSX:LSPD.TO) and BFAI,” Dunne said in a statement.

The new organizational structure will drive Verizon’s focus on both customer and growth, Dunne continued.  At a recent investor conference Dunne highlighted Verizon’s strategy of increasing its customer base while growing revenues, with 5G adoption key component.

In Thursday's announcement, Dunne cited an expanding consumer business, pointing to C-band deployments and the push into prepaid with the planned purchase of Tracfone.  

“Our investment in C-band spectrum and the pending Tracfone acquisition are critical enablers to continue expanding our consumer business on a national scale through opportunities like 5G mobility and fixed wireless access. Our customers are looking to us to build the future and unlock a more connected world,” Dunne stated.
