They're Cooked: The top wireless turkeys of 2012

Thanksgiving is just a few days away. That means families are gathering, turkeys are about to be basted, and couches are being prepped for hours of football watching. It's a glorious time of year and it's my favorite holiday for many reasons (not least of which is my dad's famous turkey recipe).

It's also an opportunity for reflection. And once again, the Fierce editorial team is thinking of one thing: turkeys.

Now in its fifth annual edition (check out our lists from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011), our FierceWireless Top Wireless Turkeys list of  2012 includes reflections on the products, strategies and plans that went awry this year.  In 2012 there was an overabundance of products and offerings that fell behind schedule, stumbled out of the gate, caused consternation among consumers or outright failed to meet expectations.

Some of these turkeys are bigger than others, which is why we have ranked them on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the biggest turkey.

We know it's never nice to point out the faults and failures of others, but we believe that the wireless industry can learn from the follies of those on this year's list. Additionally, this is clearly becoming a tradition for us, and Thanksgiving revolves heavily around tradition.

While this list is by no means exhaustive, it does include some of what we believe were the biggest flops of 2012. As always, we welcome your comments and criticisms.
