How Samsung’s indoor solutions can help with the adoption of 5G

Today’s enterprise applications and use cases demand powerful wireless networks. Business needs have expanded beyond the capacity and capabilities of the unlicensed wireless standard, aka Wi-Fi. No matter which version of Wi-Fi is used, this technology alone is not sufficient, as businesses need truly fast indoor connectivity among an astounding array of systems and things, and to handle a massive amount of data exchanges without dropouts.

Fortunately, 5G technology has arrived to address the enterprise’s ever-growing need for reliable, high-speed indoor connectivity. 5G has the capacity, infrastructure and speed to support business-driven data connectivity for complex data communications between financial/management/production platforms and Internet of Things (IoT) enabled equipment.

Deploying 5G’s reach indoors will satisfy enterprise’s high expectations for performance and connectivity from wireless broadband and prove 5G’s worth as the natural successor to Wi-Fi, just as 4G superseded 3G. Moreover, as wireless subscribers become accustomed to the power and speed of 5G on their smartphones, they will naturally expect these same capabilities to be present wherever they go—not just outdoors or in public places. And having become accustomed to the superior performance of 5G, businesspeople will be open to regularly investing in and subscribing to 5G wireless services, just as they accepted doing the same to connect their companies to the web years before.

The bottom line: By leveraging the demand for indoor 5G network, operators can increase the user's network satisfaction while generating new revenue by providing new services. This is a true win-win for customer and carrier alike.

Samsung’s place in the 5G marketplace

Samsung is a critical contributor to the launch of commercial 5G service in the U.S. and other global markets. This pioneering experience has provided Samsung with the technological product knowledge to meet enterprise needs.

Today, Samsung’s portfolio of indoor 5G products includes multiple solutions that support low-, mid- and high-frequency bands, including mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum deployments.

Most importantly for mobile operators, Samsung has equipment ready today to provision reliable indoor 5G service for enterprise customers of all sizes. By being ready to serve this emerging market in a comprehensive and capable manner, Samsung is making 5G more attractive than ever to potential users.

Samsung’s Link Series — Simple and powerful for 5G operators

Three products in Samsung’s Link Series are designed to serve the indoor 5G enterprise market: Link Cell, Link HubPro and Link Hub.

Link Cell

Samsung’s 5G indoor small-cell unit, Link Cell, combines the baseband, radio and antenna into one of the smallest 5G devices all connecting back to the network via fiber. Link Cell delivers superior high-data capacity and throughput for high-traffic areas, thus ensuring seamless and enhanced 5G experiences to users indoors.

Samsung's Link Cell provides Gbps data throughput for hotspots and high-traffic areas where high capacity and low latency are a necessity. It supports carriage in the 28GHz and 39GHz bands and has the capability to combine four carriers of 100MHz of bandwidth, offering high-capacity and ultra-fast download speeds. Link Cell is among the first commercial products available globally that provide wireless operators with a mmWave indoor small cell.

The Link Cell delivers data-rich 5G-powered applications with ease within enterprises, corporate offices and entertainment/public venues.

Also worth noting: Verizon is the first U.S. wireless operator to commercially deploy Samsung’s Link Cell, which the wireless provider uses to extend the footprint of its 5G Ultra Wideband network. This marks a new phase in delivering enterprise private 5G networks, and advancing next-generation cellular technology use cases and applications.

Link HubPro

Link HubPro is an active DAS (Distributed Antenna System) solution consisting of an indoor radio and a radio hub unit used to aggregate up to seven indoor radios. Multiple radio hub units can be cascaded together for quick and extended coverage growth within an enterprise.

For mobile operators and businesses, the Link HubPro provides scalable indoor deployment for both LTE/4G and 5G data distribution applications. This solution’s indoor radios and radio hub units are connected through PoE (Power over Ethernet). PoE enables easier and faster installation, as the indoor 5G units don’t require extra power cables.

With Link HubPro and Link Cell, operators can select the number of indoor radios and hubs to be linked as required. Better yet, multiple indoor radios can be initially configured to work as a single cell to widen 5G coverage within the enterprise. Later, they can be used as individual cells to secure performance and coverage for hotspot areas. This flexibility allows Link HubPro to serve as a coverage-expansion solution for large venues such as office buildings or subway stations at early deployment stages, and later as a capacity solution to adapt increasing traffic demands.

Link Hub

Samsung’s Link Hub is designed to be used in venues with existing passive DAS systems. This allows them to provide indoor commercial wireless service with minimal capital expenditures, including low- and mid-band LTE and 5G. The Link Hub acts as a bridge between baseband transmission equipment and a passive DAS headend, converting data traffic into radio signals.

From an enterprise business standpoint, Link Hub provides a fast and easy path to 5G adoption while protecting operators’ existing investments. Better yet, an operator’s network management system can handle this radio interface remotely.

A solid 5G approach for operators

Samsung’s indoor 5G solutions adeptly balance the need for operators to use their existing resources efficiently, while delivering better 5G experience to clients and opening new and advanced services in the future. This is a solid, responsible approach to indoor 5G deployment that puts operators first without compromising the quality and variety of 5G services that can be offered to clients.

The time to act is now

To reach its full sales potential, 5G must provide the coverage subscribers expect indoors and outdoors. Operators can achieve this goal by deploying Samsung’s Link Series and choosing Samsung as their trusted 5G vendor.

The reason: Samsung has pioneered the successful delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions to the world, including chipsets, radios and core equipment. Through its ongoing research and development, Samsung is also advancing the state-of-the-art in 5G equipment and networks.
