TeliaSonera plans LTE in 218 Swedish communities in 2011

TeliaSonera has introduced its LTE network in Gothenburg, Sweden, and plans to accelerate its buildout into 218 Swedish communities throughout 2011.

TeliaSonera was the first operator in the world to introduce a commercial LTE network in December in Stockholm and Oslo. It expects to launch LTE in 25 towns and cities by the end of this year. Tests indicate the network in Stockholm transmits download speeds at up to 59.1 Mbps, and TeliaSonera says the network can transmit download speeds at up to 80 Mbps under optimum circumstances.

TeliaSonera's competitors in Sweden are preparing to launch LTE as well. Telenor and Tele 2 have combined to build a network that will cover more than 100 cities and towns by the end of 2011. Telenor is planning to launch a commercial service by the end of the year.
