ABI: 2012 will be a critical year for 4G expansion

With both the LTE and WiMAX camps racing to increase their product portfolios and population coverage, 2012 will be a key year to see how those efforts have worked, according to a new report from ABI Research. The firm says that by the end of 2012 there could be over 1 billion people covered by WiMAX networks worldwide. ABI also predicts that LTE coverage will spread out from urban areas and could reach 600 million POPs covered by the end of 2012. The big wild card in all of this is TD-LTE, which might tempt some WIMAX operators. Release
