CTIA announced that Dave Mayo, EVP of Network Development at Dish Wireless, will join CTIA’s Board of Directors.

Mayo, who is responsible for Dish’s wireless buildout strategy and deployment of its 5G standalone (SA) network, spent about 20 years at T-Mobile before joining Dish in 2020. He also was a manager at US West Cellular before joining T-Mobile’s predecessor, Western Wireless, in 1996.

“Dave is no stranger to CTIA, and we’re thrilled to have him join our Board of Directors,” said CTIA President and CEO Meredith Attwell Baker in a statement. “His decades of industry experience will be vital towards our team’s ongoing efforts to expand connectivity and drive innovations that will take our 5G Economy to new heights.”

During his tenure at T-Mobile, Mayo founded the company’s fixed wireless business and led its IoT division.

“I am honored to join CTIA’s Board of Directors,” Mayo said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members as we continue to build and advance first-class wireless networks to power the U.S.’s growing 5G economy and connect communities across the country.”

This is not the first time Dish has been represented on CTIA's board. Stephen Bye, who left Dish last month, previously was on the board.

Dish has yet to announce a date for its fourth-quarter 2022 earnings call, but the company ended the third quarter of 2022 with 10,000 cell sites deployed and coverage to 35% of the U.S. population.

Dish needs to cover 70% of the U.S. population with 5G by June 14 of this year and 75% of the population by mid-2025.

Last month, Dish said it plans a debt offering of about $500 million of its senior secured notes. That offering followed a $2 billion debt offering that the company finalized last November, which, like this one, was to be used for the buildout of its 5G network.
