Ericsson: EDGE upgrades to reach 1Mbps by 2009

Ericsson plans to make its 1Mbps EDGE Evolution network upgrades available by 2009. The software upgrade runs on GSM networks, and will enable EDGE Evolution devices to transfer data 300 percent faster than current EDGE systems. GSM device users, then, will be able to enjoy connections of up to 1Mbps in speed, according to Ericsson. Sort of like CDMA's EV-DO and W-CDMA 3G networks, only in two years instead of right now.
