Ericsson has received a $1.3 billion contract from Bharat Sanch Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to supply the carrier with mobile equipment and related services. The vendor will specifically upgrade BSNL's GSM network with WCDMA/HSPA technology. Ericsson will also provide network design services and deployment and systems integration. The deliveries will begin next month and the first phase of the project should be complete in one year's time. The deal is very similar to a billion dollar deal Ericsson inked with Bharti Airtel this time last year.
