Foxconn to build $1B handset plant in India?

A Taiwan-based telecommunications equipment company plans to invest $1 billion for a mobile phone manufacturing plant in India. The Indian government declined to name the Taiwanese OEM but did note that the company has a large presence as a mobile phone maker in mainland China. The Associated Press reported Foxconn Technology is the company. The Taiwanese company met with Indian officials to discuss possible locations for the plant, including Tamil Nadu, where Nokia is building its manufacturing plant. If the deal is finalized, it will mark the largest foreign investment in high-tech manufacturing in India. The country is a member of the BRIC emerging markets, along with Brazil, Russia and China.
