Report: Smartphone capabilities are causing battery drain

It's a tough balance for smartphone makers who must decide whether extra capabilities that can be crammed into the new devices are worth the shorter battery life that will likely result from their use.

Analyst firm Canalys said in its latest report on European smartphone sales that 38 percent of devices now come with GPS and 58 percent can connect using WiFi. However, the extra features and the large touchscreens are having a negative effect on battery life and resulting in customer dissatisfaction.
