Rumor Mill: T-Mobile to unleash cheaper unlimited plan April 13

T-Mobile USA's long-rumored cheaper unlimited plan could hit the market as soon as April 13, according to the blog TMoNews. The cheaper plan was first rumored in February but has yet to surface.

According to the blog, which said it obtained an internal T-Mobile screenshot with details of the plan, the new plan will cost $79.99 and will be available to T-Mobile's "Even More" postpaid subscribers. The plan, which would be $20 cheaper than T-Mobile's current unlimited postpaid plan, will include unlimited voice, texting and data. However, the blog said once subscribers use more than 2 GB of data in a month, their data speeds will be throttled for the remainder of their billing cycle.

Additionally, the blog said T-Mobile's current $80 plan, which offers 1,500 voice minutes and unlimited texting and data, will be grandfathered into the new plan.

A T-Mobile spokeswoman declined to comment.

The new plan was first mentioned in mid-February, but later that month BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk said the plan had been shelved indefinitely. If T-Mobile does move forward with the plan, it will allow the carrier to significantly undercut the prices of its larger competitors. It would also be an indication that T-Mobile is moving ahead with its business plans in the wake of AT&T's (NYSE:T) bid to purchase it for $39 billion. Until the deal closes, the two companies will remain independent competitors.
