The Yankee Group argued the proposed deadline for Canada's wireless carriers to enable wireless number portability--September 12, 2007--is realistic and rational. Currently, Canadian consumers cannot take their mobile numbers with them if they switch carriers. Some also have contracts that include cancellation penalties. US carriers launched customer retention schemes that effectively kept switching carriers in check. Although there was some switching, it did not break the industry. The Yankee Group expects Canadian carriers to launch a major marketing push to retain subscribers before the deadline hits. Article
