SPOTLIGHT: LBS finally gets beyond navigation

Ever since the E911 initiative, the wireless industry has been hot and cold on location-based services. LBS is such an obvious functionality for mobile phones, but services beyond the navigation realm have yet to take off or enjoy a true launch in the marketplace. Disney Mobile and Sprint Nextel changed that in 2006 with the launch of their respective family locator services. Finally, a compelling application for the technology that ignores the tired examples of coupons and coffee shops.
