Telus invests in Amp'd, brings services to Canada

Telus has inked a deal with Amp'd that sees the Canadian carrier bringing Amp'd's services and content to its subscribers and Telus Ventures has disclosed a $7.5 million investment in Amp'd Mobile. The relationship is not a typical MVNO arrangement since Telus will manage most of the business operations including customer service, sales, pricing and distribution, while Amp'd will tackle branding and marketing efforts. The unfortunate brand name for the JV is "Amp'd powered by Telus." The duo will market the service in the 19 Canadian communities which Telus deployed CDMA EV-DO services in during the past nine months. As the great 2006-2007 MVNO shakeout continues, maybe this is the future of the entertainment-based MVNO: A content aggregator responsible for branding and marketing.
