According to a recent report from IDC, record shipments led to a 21 percent year-over-year jump in mobile phone shipments this quarter to a total of 254.9 million units shipped. The researchers say the industry is on track to move more than 1 billion units this year. IDC analyst Ryan Reith echoed the rest of the industry by noting that "the buzz around stylish phones is driving consumer awareness" and the holiday season will be big for OEMs. Samsung's, SonyEricsson's, and Motorola's Q3 reports were a testament to this.
