Virgin Mobile Head: Mobile music should be open

Virgin Mobile USA head Daniel Schulman lashed out against mobile music services in a recent interview. Schulman said that mobile music services and devices must be open and allow consumers to transfer music from their PCs to their handsets. He argued that the youth market expects this functionality and without it mobile music services will lose out to established giants like Apple's iPod and iTunes platform. Schulman said that Virgin Mobile USA does not plan to launch an over-the-air downloadable mobile music service until the company can guarantee a solid user experience and high data speeds for downloads.
