Verizon bolsters enterprise focus, names SVP for new strategy role

Verizon Business is bolstering its enterprise efforts with the creation of a new role, appointing Shubho Ghosh as SVP to lead business strategy and transformation.

Ghosh comes from the Boston Consulting Group, where he worked with technology and telecommunications clients, focused on revenue growth, as global lead of the Marketing and Sales Practice for Transformations. Prior to that Ghosh held roles at McKinsey & Company and UBS Investment Bank. He'll oversee a team that's focused in part on business model innovation.

Ghosh will report to Verizon Business CEO Tami Erwin, who is out on medical leave until next month.

The newly created position follows earlier appointments, including Jennifer Artley, who stepped into an SVP role in April. Artley is heading up strategic business development initiatives in Verizon’s enterprise unit, with a focus on enhanced customer experience that leverages partner ecosystems around 5G and MEC. Before joining Verizon, Artley was managing director of technology, life sciences and business services, and president of BT Americas. She’s also held executive roles at Equinix, and Level 3 Communications. Artley reports to Verizon Business CRO Sampath Sowmyanarayan.

“Since the inception of Verizon Business in 2019, we have been building a team of extraordinary leaders who have a bias for yes and growth mindset that will continue to propel us into the next phase of our evolution,” said Sowmyanarayan in a statement. “The addition of Shubho and Jennifer to our exceptional leadership team are just that, the right people, in the right place, and at the right time.”

Sowmyanarayan has said his goal is to grow Verizon Business revenues 4% or about $1.2 billion each year. The CRO position was a new role for the Verizon team created in 2021, a year that’s seen multiple appointments in the business unit

That includes Massimo Peselli, promoted to SVP of global enterprise in April after Sowmyanaryan became CRO, and the appointment of TJ Fox in May for a new senior vice president position focused on industrial IoT and Automation.

Verizon Business incorporates enterprise, small and medium businesses, wholesale and public sector.

In April, Jennifer Chronis took over as head of the public sector segment – nine months after joining Verizon to lead the carrier’s federal business unit.

The carrier has put an emphasis on private networks, mobile edge compute, and network-as-a-service for enterprise, as well as the introduction of fixed wireless offerings.

For mobile edge compute, Verizon’s business group is targeting what it expects to be a more than $30 billion addressable market opportunity by 2025. That includes a $10 billion market for public and private edge compute in the U.S.; $10 billion global private networks market; and $12 billion enterprise solutions opportunity in the U.S.
